Merete explores the concept of inner space, combined with her love of softly curved surfaces in her stunning hand-built sculptures. Each piece seamlessly transition from concave to convex, inside to outside.
Her work often plays with the contrast between the gentle, rounded forms and the sharply defined edges. Whilst some of the forms are complex, the pieces to embody simplicity and strength.
Merete uses colour and scale to observe and explore our changing human relationship to each piece.
Merete's work is hand built in stoneware, and they are sometimes double-walled. She uses glazes and slip to emphasize the shape, either as one colour or using stripes as decoration.
Merete is a Danish ceramicist, now based in London and exhibiting widely across the UK and Scandinavia. Merete has just been given a Crafts Council Development Award.
