PAINTINGS

  • Linda Leroy

Linda Leroy's paintings are mainly an expression of personal symbolism.

Often a mix of pencil, crayon, collage and oils, her work displays a kind of verbal graffiti.

Each piece is derived from words or conversations which have stopped the artist in her tracks - a phrase that hangs in the air and stays with her, out of context and devoid of meaning, but returns unbidden etched in her memory. These words or phrases have their own signs and symbols, which become erased only to re-emerge in Linda's paintings.

Linda has exhibited in group and solo shows across the UK. She is currently preparing for a joint exhibition with a Japanese artist which will be opening at the Shimada Museum of Art in Kumamoto on April 8th this year.   Her work Feeling Jealous, below, is one of sixteen works taken from the Haiku.  Haiku is a form of poetry popular in Japan, which is becoming more widely appreciated around the world in this century. Haiku writers are challenged to convey a vivid impression in only 17 Japanese characters.

Linda completed a Masters in Fine Art at City & Guilds Art School of London.
