contemporary design
Since graduating from The Royal College of Art, Kathleen Hills’ work has aquired quite a following. The Crafts Council has promoted her work and Cate Blanchett commissioned a lighting installation for her home.
Katherine is interested in the whole tradition of the English home, of English dining. The inspiration behind her work is quite personal, to do with the things that were around her as she was growing up. The preoccupation with the domestic is, in the realm of ceramics, most historically appropriate. Not only is ceramic the material of choice for many utilitarian household essentials, but china ornaments are the epitome of domestic art, more familiar to most of us than paintings or edgy, conceptual installations.
Featured in numerous interiors magazines, the 24/12th cluster light is a visually striking, contemporary light made of bone china which gives it a fantastic translucent quality when lit. Beautifully made, Kathleen's lighting makes a functional design statement that won’t date. She designed the lights to hang as clusters but they can be displayed as bunches or trailed along walls or ceilings on little hooks.
Standard length of cluster is 700mm from ceiling to base of shade for a cluster of 4 or 8. For a cluster of 12 (or 16) the standard drop is 1000mm from ceiling to base of lowest shade.
However they can be made shorter if specified at the time of your order. Includes china ceiling rose and white satin twisted flex.
Kathleen has an MA in Ceramics and Gladd from the Royal College of Art as well as a first class honours degree in Ceramic Design from Central St Martins College of Art and Design.
