  • holly frean

Holly’s subject is the urban crowd.  Whether people are shown massed together in a jostling crowd formation, gathered in small groups in an art gallery, or singled out in a portrait, her paintings are lively observations on human gesture and activity.

Whilst Holly works in the tradition of oil on canvas, she takes her imagery from her own ever-growing collection of photographs and postcards. Her paintings offer a sense of fragmented rhythm, pattern and colour. Often using patched-together drawings and slide projections, her silhouette figures appear and disappear in the materiality of the brushwork.

Following a sell-out degree show at City and Guilds Art School in 2002, Holly has been focusing on painting commissions and exhibiting in London. With a growing number of portrait commissions, Holly moved into her studio in South London in 2004, where she currently works and regularly shows at the studio's bi-annual Open Studios.

Holly’s work sells for £100 - £500 for drawings and £300 - £5000 for paintings. We will be featuring new work from Holly shortly.
