Design collective CUSTHOM (Nathan Philpott and Jemma Ooi) began their collaboration shortly after graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2007. They have researched and developed user interactive products with the aim to explore processes and challenge the mass production of todays products.
Their work focuses on silk screen printing & digital embroidery in the aim to push ideas of aesthetic as a reaction to the present. The possibilities of these processes have been manipulated and experimented with, informing the development and diversity of their work.
All their wallpapers are printed using water based inks in the UK, and mostly in places just on their doorstep, so they can have a really close working relationship with their manufacturers and keep the quality and uniqueness of their work the priority when designing.
"Our designs have always had a core theme of individuality or change of state - allowing uniqueness and unexpected outcomes. Yet we feel the roll of the designer is not to provide an open ended result but to have considered all possibilities allowing the product to properly function and work aesthetically." - CUSTHOM
